For the Love of Candles (Reflections & Giveaway!)
There’s a Chris Rice song I love called “Go Light Your World.” You can listen to it here.
Some of the lyrics,
There is a candle in every soul. Some brightly burning, some dark and cold . There is a Spirit who brings a fire. Ignites a candle and makes His home.
Carry your candle, run to the darkness. Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn. Hold out your candle for all to see it. Take your candle, and go light your world.
I love the symbolism of a candle.
In fact, Jesus Christ said to his followers, “You are the light of world, A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
As believers, we are called to be lights to others. And this week, I had the opportunity to be reminded of that calling when I sat down to interview Justin and Grifyn Benedict for the “Finding Something Real podcast.” The Benedicts are a family in full-time ministry in Costa Rica. I didn’t talk with them so much about what they’re doing, but rather, why. I hope you find their passion for Jesus as inspiring and hopeful as I did. You can also hear more about their story and ministry by listening to Justin share here.
The giveaway this week is what else? A candle. And it’s extra special to me because it’s from a sentimental mom and pop outfit called the Snohomish Candle Company. It’s literally mom and pop for me. My Dad makes the candles and my Mom does the marketing. It’s their little retirement business and I am excited to share their beautiful product with you. I will be sending one of my favorite holiday scents to the lucky winner.
To enter this giveaway, please go to Facebook and give Snohomish Candle Company a like. Come back here and say “Done!” in the comments before 11:59PM on Tuesday, December 17th. I’ll choose one winner Wednesday the 18th and notify them. If you don’t have Facebook, you can still enter by saying something below that you love about candles!
